OK. This is going to be a very long rant and I apologize beforehand but I need to get this out.
So we have been talking about cyber bullying at school lately and one of my friends was saying that to stop it you just close your computer, and he couldn’t comprehend the fact that it is not as easy that. (This pissed me off more than it probably should have) But I was just so angry at the fact that he was talking about cyber bullying as if it was no big deal, or something you can just forget about and ignore. I do truly wish that it was that easy to ignore but it’s not. You can’t just close your computer and forget about it because when you do need to open it, guess what’s going to be right there waiting for you. Hate. The pain caused by cyber bullying is indescribable, it is like all of your safety nets have been taken away and you are just there, powerless to the bullies hating words. It is like you are tied up on a stage and everyone is throwing stuff at you and shouting at you and making fun of you but you just can’t do anything about it, and feeling that at home is hell. Even if you take down the account that you are getting hate on, there is still that constant fear that people are still talking about you and it’s even worse because you don’t know what they are saying so you can’t do anything about it. So, it’s not just something that you can close your computer to because it is always there, no matter where you are it will be there waiting for you. From personal experience I can say that cyber bullying is as bad as or even worse than bullying to your face. When someone bullies you in person, you at least know who is saying the mean things and so you can address it right from the source, but when you get hate from an anonymous person online it tears you apart. When I started getting hate mail on websites I became so paranoid worrying who it was that I began to accuse my friends of doing it and I lost quite a few friends because of it. Cyber bullying is not something that you can just shut your laptop to and ignore, and the people who think that this is true have clearly never been truly cyber bullied. Sorry if this offended anyone but I just needed to get this out there.
